Colby Community College announced that nationally recognized sculptor and painter Carson Norton has joined the faculty as an adjunct art instructor. Norton, owner and lead artist of Norton Art Studios in Leoti, Kan., brings decades of artistic experience and large-scale public works to the classroom.

Norton’s monumental bronze sculptures can be found across Kansas, including:

  • “The Dandy” Bat Masterson, Ford County Historical Society, Dodge City (2021)
  • Crumbine, Kansas Health Institute, Topeka (2019)
  • Duty Called, Veterans Memorial Park, Wamego (2017)

In addition to public art commissions, Norton’s work has been featured in juried shows and galleries across the region, including the Vernon Filley Art Museum, Deines Cultural Center, and Shafer Art Gallery. He also served on the design team for the Dockum Sit-in Memorial Project and was a featured artist at Fort Larned National Historic Site.

This semester at Colby, Norton is teaching Oil Painting (AR105) and Beginning Sculpture (AR115) during the fall 12-week session. Classes began Sept. 15, and the last day to add or drop without refund is Sept. 25.
