The Colby Community College volleyball team is sponsoring Support Puerto Rico Night at their home game against Barton Community College Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m.

Though a great distance away from the destruction, the CCC volleyball and baseball teams have been deeply impacted by hurricanes Irma and Maria. Enok Perez and Karleeann Ramos, both CCC freshman student-athletes, are from Puerto Rico. Due to the terrible effects of the two hurricanes, both have had limited communication with loved ones. Their families, like most of Puerto Rico, have no electricity or water and have been left to fend for themselves in a time of great need.

“During Wednesday’s match with Barton, we hope our friends, family, and fans will support our cause by helping raise money to send to Puerto Rico hurricane relief,” said head volleyball coach Carey Jones.

Activities Wednesday night include a raffle for Kansas State football tickets. There will also be a “miracle minute,” when college representatives run through the crowd accepting as much money as possible in 60 seconds.

Collected funds will be donated to Unidos Por Puerto Rico, a nonprofit initiative created by the office of First Lady Beatriz Rosselló and a private sector group to help victims who lost their belongings during the storms.

For those wanting to help but are unable to attend the game, a check can be made to the CCC Endowment Foundation with a note directing the gift to Puerto Rico relief. Donations can also be made at under the “donate” tab.

Updates will be given on Support Puerto Rico Night through the volleyball Twitter and Facebook pages. For more information, contact Jones at (785) 460-5473.
