Customized Information from CCC

Outside Scholarships

Scholarships are available from many sources, including high schools, places of worship, civic groups, and parents' employers. Students are encouraged to check with a high school guidance counselor, the reference section of a library, and organizations in their hometown. Receipt of outside scholarships could affect eligibility for certain aid types.

Payment Plan

Colby Community College offers a multi-month payment plan for students who need to spread tuition and fees across the semester. Students can set up payment plans through Trojan Web.

Private Student Loan

Private student loans are contingent upon application approval from a bank, credit union, non-profit or state-based education finance organization, or online lender.

Federal Parent PLUS Loan

Federal Parent PLUS loans are contingent upon parent application approval. The parent must not have an adverse credit history, and the loan must be repaid by the parent.

Glossary

Cost of Attendance (COA)
The total amount, not including grants and scholarships, that it will cost to go to school during the 2025-26 school year. COA includes tuition and fees, housing and food, and allowances for books, supplies, transportation, loan fees, dependent care, miscellaneous and personal expenses, costs related to a disability, and reasonable costs for eligible study-abroad programs.
Direct Subsidized Loan
A loan for which the U.S. Department of Education pays the interest while the student is in school at least half-time, for the first six months after leaving school, and during a period of deferment.
Direct Unsubsidized Loan
A loan for which the borrower is responsible for paying the interest during all periods. If interest is not paid while in school, during grace periods, deferment, or forbearance, the interest accrues and may be capitalized.
Student Aid Index
A number used by a school to calculate the amount of federal student aid for which a student is eligible. It is based on financial information provided on the FAFSA. It is not the amount owed to the school, and it is not the amount of federal student aid a student will receive.
Federal Work-Study
A federal student aid program that provides part-time employment while the student is enrolled in school to help pay education expenses.
Grants and Scholarships
Student aid funds that do not have to be repaid. Grants are often need-based, while scholarships are usually merit-based. Outside scholarships may reduce other aid.
Loans
Borrowed money that must be repaid with interest. Federal loans typically have a lower interest rate than private loans and may offer flexible repayment options.
Net Price
An estimate of the actual cost that a student and family need to pay in a given year to cover education expenses after subtracting grants and scholarships.
Non-Federal Private Education Loan
A private education loan issued for postsecondary education expenses through an extension of credit, rather than a Title IV Higher Education Act loan offered by the Department of Education.
Origination Fees
An upfront fee charged by a lender for processing a new loan application. Origination fees are quoted as a percentage of the total loan.
Parent PLUS Loan
A loan available to parents of dependent undergraduate students. The borrower is fully responsible for paying interest regardless of loan status.
TEACH Grant Program
A program that provides grants to students who are completing or plan to complete coursework needed to begin a career in teaching. A TEACH Grant may be converted to a Direct Unsubsidized Loan if service obligations are not met.
Tuition Payment Plan
A plan offered by an institution that allows students to spread payments. It may include a short-term extension of credit.
