Colby Community College announced the names of 18 students awarded Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification for the fall 2015 semester. It is the first time CCC has offered the exams since becoming a testing site for Microsoft’s IT Academy.

As an IT Academy testing site, CCC provides training on fundamental technology skills for students, staff and community members interested in enhancing performance in a certain area or pursuing a career in IT.

According to business and computer instructor Crystal Pounds, MOS certification validates mastery of Microsoft Office skills that are valuable in a wide range of jobs and other life pursuits.

“Earning MOS certification proves the ability to use Office applications on the job and provides valuable distinction to help students in higher education and the workforce.”

Certification options include Word 2013, Excel 2013, PowerPoint 2013, Access 2013, Outlook 2013, SharePoint 2013, OneNote 2013, Word 2013 Expert Part 1, Word 2013 Expert Part 2, Excel 2013 Expert Part 1 and Excel 2013 Expert Part 2.

Sophomore Greg Leban scored a perfect on the PowerPoint certification exam.

"I took the PowerPoint IT Academy certification during my Computer Concepts and Applications class,” he said. “The perfect score means a lot as it validates the information I've learned in the course. I will use this certification on my resumé while utilizing the skills I've mastered in PowerPoint to present ideas in the future."
