Award-winning western author John D. Nesbitt will discuss writing personal stories and life experiences during the Dr. Max Pickerill Lecture Series at Colby Community College on Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the H.F. Davis Memorial Library.
Nesbitt's presentation, "Being a Writer and Writing One's Own Story," will explore how individuals can preserve their experiences through writing, regardless of their background or previous writing experience.
The discussion will address the different purposes of writing about personal experiences and offer practical suggestions for getting started. Nesbitt will explain how breaking the process into smaller steps can make writing more approachable without requiring advanced technology or specialized skills.
He also plans to read selections from his own writing and also take audience questions.
Nesbitt is the author of more than 60 books spanning traditional westerns, western mysteries, contemporary fiction, nonfiction and poetry. He is a four-time recipient of the Western Writers of America Spur Award, earning honors for novels, a short story and a poem. He has also received two Western Fictioneers Peacemaker Awards.
His work has earned numerous additional honors, including two creative writing fellowships from the Wyoming Arts Council and four fiction awards from the Wyoming State Historical Society.
His recent publications include Boy from the Country, a memoir; At the Ranch, a poetry collection; and Summer's Lease, a western novel.
