Colby Community College student-athletes produced one of the strongest overall classroom performances in school history.
Under the leadership of Athletic Director Kenny Hernandez, Trojan student-athletes combined to post a 3.36 overall department GPA for the academic year, improving on the 3.26 GPA recorded in 2024-25. The department also achieved its highest spring semester GPA since Spring 2023, with a 3.41 GPA in 2026.
"This is a tremendous accomplishment for our student-athletes, coaches, and academic support staff," Hernandez said. "The continued growth we are seeing academically across the department reflects the culture our programs are building every day. We are proud of the commitment our student-athletes continue to show both in competition and in the classroom."
The success began during the Fall 2025 semester, when 10 programs achieved team GPAs of 3.2 or higher, and seven programs finished above 3.4. Overall, the department posted a 3.33 overall GPA during the fall semester, while 60 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Volleyball led all programs in the fall with a 3.73 GPA, and five student-athletes earned 4.0 GPAs. Women's basketball followed closely with a 3.71 GPA, and produced eight student-athletes with perfect semesters.
Compared to Spring 2025, the department saw significant academic improvement, rising from a 3.27 GPA and 41 student-athletes earning 4.0 GPAs to a 3.33 GPA and 60 perfect GPAs during Fall 2025.
The momentum continued into the Spring 2026 semester as 13 of the department's 14 athletic programs finished with team GPAs above 3.2, while 10 programs earned GPAs of 3.4 or higher. Across all programs, 66 student-athletes earned a 4.0 GPA during the semester.
Volleyball again paced the department with a 3.87 team GPA, and seven student-athletes earned perfect GPAs. Softball followed with a 3.71 GPA and a department-best 10 student-athletes achieving 4.0 GPAs.
For the full academic year, 12 programs posted cumulative GPAs above 3.2, and 10 programs finished at 3.4 or higher. Volleyball led all programs with a 3.80 cumulative GPA, followed by women's basketball at 3.71.
"These accomplishments are a direct reflection of the hard work and discipline of our student-athletes and coaches," Hernandez said. "We continue to raise the standard academically at Colby, and it has been exciting to watch our programs embrace that challenge."
