Lab named in memory of late dentist
In memory of the college’s long-time supervising dentist, the Colby Community College dental hygiene lab officially became the Dr. Jay G. Sekavek Dental Hygiene Lab on Tuesday. The college also learned that the Sekavek family is starting a $1,000 endowed scholarship for dental hygiene students.
“I wish you students could have heard how Dr. Jay would talk about you,” president Seth Carter said at the dedication. “He wanted the best for each and every one of you.”
Originally from Oakley, Sekavek earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Missouri at Kansas City prior to a distinguished 31-year career in the United States Air Force. He retired at the rank of colonel in 1993. He served as the supervising dentist for the college dental hygiene program from 1999 until his death last February.
