The Criminal Justice program at Colby Community College prepares graduates to compete for highly popular positions in criminal justice organizations, or for further study in many disciplines such as law, criminology, psychology, sociology, forensics, and public administration. The Criminal Justice program at Colby Community college offers a major that explores the connections between the individual, society, law, science, crime, and justice. The program is designed for highly motivated students who wish to pursue positions in the criminal justice profession. Our goal is to help students successfully transcend the bridge from our community of learners to the community of leaders by providing graduates with skills that can be used in both the private and public sectors. 

We have exceptional faculty with extensive real-world experience in the field that greatly enhances the quality of our criminal justice program. Besides Law Enforcement and Corrections pathways, we offer specializations within the criminal justice field, such as cybersecurity, forensics, and victim/witness advocacy. The availability of specialized tracks makes our program appealing to students with specific career goals. Our program offers flexible scheduling options, such as traditional on campus face to face, hybrid classes partially online and face to face. Besides online courses or part-time pathways, we offer 8 week and 12 week classes to accommodate different student needs. The post-graduation success of our alumni, such as job placement rates, salaries, and career achievements, is proof of our program's effectiveness.

Criminal Justice Associate of Arts

 

This is designed for those students wishing to transfer to a four-year institution and complete a Bachelor’s Degree. Students transfer to a four-year university such as Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University, Kansas University, Pittsburg State University, Washburn University, Ottawa University, Baker University, or Wichita State University. Students also transfer to four-year universities out-of-state.

Colby Community College has a 2+2 agreement with Kansas State University Salina (K-State Salina), giving students an option to continue their career.

Criminal Justice Associate of Applied Science / Technical Certificate 

 

Students who wish to enter the Criminal Justice field shortly after graduation. This degree option is not recommended for students transferring to a four- year school. Emphasis is placed on practical application as well as theory. Students develop skills required for entry into Criminal Justice or related industries. This degree is intended for law enforcement and corrections
officers who have completed the basic certification academy. Academy graduates hours from the Academy to be applied toward completion of the Associate of Applied Science degree
