Studio Friday Features Michael Knutson

Fri Sep 25, 2015 at 08:33 AM

Visiting art instructor Michael Knutson will be featured at Studio Friday hosted by Colby Community College on Friday, Oct. 2, in Ferguson Hall. The event will be held from 9 a.m.- noon and from 1-3 p.m.

Knutson joined the Garden City Community College art faculty in 2015 after serving as an adjunct art instructor at Fort Hays State University.  The son of two art educators, he spent his childhood immersed in creativity drawing and drew inspiration from his experiences in the natural environment of the Black Hills of South Dakota.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Black Hills State University in 2010, Knutson went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts from Fort Hays State University in 2013. He is an accomplished visual artist and works primarily as a painter. He has an active national exhibition record of solo and group shows and has completed many public art commissions for institutions such as the Sternberg Museum of Natural History. The base for Knutson’s work is a deep connection to the immediate environment and life experiences. He works both in the studio and in the landscape, and he encourages exploration and searching for cinematic scenes with a strong sense of impending drama.

Those who plan to attend Studio Friday should bring their own painting supplies. “The demonstration will be with oil,” said CCC art instructor Rebel Jay.  “But those attending can use oil or acrylic.”

For more information regarding the presentation, contact Jay at (785) 269-7065.  There is no charge to attend.
