The Colby Community College Endowment Foundation began a new tradition this year by auctioning the sign used in a reserved parking stall awarded to long-time chemistry instructor Dr. Max “Pick” Pickerill. The sign was purchased by Crop Production Services of Colby for CCC freshman Makayla Hoffman.

“We decided to sell the sign at the auction in April and it will continue to sell on an annual basis in memory of Pick,” said Foundation director Jennifer Schoenfeld. “The recipient will have the reserved parking space for a year.”

Pickerill was presented with the reserved stall when he began his 100th career semester of teaching. He taught at colleges in Oklahoma and Louisiana before arriving at CCC in 1974. He formally retired at age 84 in 2008, but continued to tutor and teach part-time until his death in 2011.

“Max's sign will continue to be the staple on the sign and the annual recipient's name will be on the sign as well,” Schoenfeld said.

Hoffman chose to have her reserved parking space in front of the Stanley Carr Agriculture Center, where she will spend time as an agri-business major and a member of the equestrian team.
