Visiting Fort Hays State University Professor Joel Dugan will be featured at Studio Friday hosted by Colby Community College on Friday, Feb. 7, in Ferguson Hall, rooms #502 and #503.

The event will be held from 9 a.m.-12 noon and from 1-3 p.m.  Area artists including high school students are invited to attend this presentation of Dugan’s works. He will be giving two presentations.  The morning session, featuring skin tones, color relationships and planar structures of the face will begin at 9 a.m.  The afternoon session starting at 1 p.m. will focus on brush techniques, blending and spatial relationships of the face.

Dugan is Professor of Painting at Fort Hays State University.  He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from College for Creative Studies in 2002 and his Master’s Degree from Indiana University’s Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Art in 2011.

He is an accomplished visual artist who works primarily as a painter.  Dugan has an active national exhibition record of solo and group shows.  He recently completed many public art commissions for institutions such as the Ford Motor Company and the State of Michigan.  He also works to cultivate community interest in public art and community projects throughout the regions he has called home.

Influenced by the Regionalist Movement, the paintings of George Tooker and art of Lucian Freud, Dugan is drawn to artists who document the human condition.  He draws inspiration for his work from his life experiences as well as his interactions with interesting people.

“Those who plan to attend should bring their own supplies,” said CCC art instructor Rebel Jay.  “They may work using other mediums including color pencils or chalk.”

Studio Fridays are partially funded by the Thomas County Community Foundation.

For more information regarding the presentation, contact CCC Art Instructor Rebel Jay at 785.269.7065.  There is no charge to attend the presentations.
