Colby Community College Farm Bureau chapter members Chelsie Calliham and Ellisa Noakes each received a $500 scholarship from the Kansas Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture.

“Developing leaders for tomorrow requires an investment in today’s youth,” said KFB Foundation Director Harry A. Watts.

Calliham, president of the Thomas County Farm Bureau chapter, graduated from CCC in May with an Associate of Science in Animal Science and an Associate of Arts in General Studies. She plans to attend Kansas State University in the fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in agriculture communications and journalism with a minor in animal science.

Noakes is from Limon, Colo., and serves as ag education chair for the Colby Community College Farm Bureau chapter. She will graduate from CCC in December with an associate degree in early childhood education before transferring to Fort Hays State University.

Each year the Kansas Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture awards scholarships to college students studying in fields that benefit agriculture and rural Kansas. Overall, forty-five recipients have received $26,500 in scholarships for the 2016-17 school year.

Over the past decade, the foundation has awarded more than $253,500 in scholarships.
