Straight from its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival FED UP! will be shown on Jan. 26 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Cultural Arts Center located on the Colby Community College campus.

“The film explores the problem of obesity in America and the rest of the world,” said CCC instructor and counselor Ryan Hale.  “The film presents evidence that large quantities of sugar in processed foods are an overlooked root of the problem.”

The film producers argue that everything consumers have been told about food and exercise for the past 30 years is wrong. Conventional thinking is that calories in equal calories out and that people should eat less and exercise more.

“The statistics indicate that between 1980 and 2000, health club memberships doubled and in that same period of time obesity rates also doubled,” said Hale. “Obesity rates have increased in other countries as well including South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Norway, Sweden and others.”

There is no charge to attend this documentary.
