The Colby Community College instrumental music department recently held the first Band Day with guest clinician Ryan Simpson. Area high school students joined current CCC jazz ensemble members for a full day of rehearsal. A concert followed in the evening.

Simpson is director of the Topeka Jazz Workshop Big Band, the longest running community-based big band in the country. He is in his nineteenth year of teaching at Topeka’s Seaman Middle School, where he directs the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade concert bands, jazz ensemble, and stage band.

Students attending Band Day represented high schools from Rawlins Co., Oakley, Wichita Co., Wallace Co. and Colby.

"We appreciate everyone for their attendance and the continued support of the program,” said instrumental music instructor Michelle Meyer. “This was a great opportunity for Colby Community College and area high school students."
