Annual Art Walk set for April 19

Thu Apr 11, 2019

The Colby Community College art department will host the ninth annual Spring Art Walk on Friday, April 19, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. along Franklin Avenue in downtown Colby.

Art and activities will span 19 locations, with many pieces available for purchase. The show will feature works by professional artists, as well as student creations from CCC and area K-12 public and private schools.

K-12 art will be hung at McCarty Dairy. CCC student art will be on display in Inlow Interiors and Design.

Some new features this year include covered seating in the streets, a street maize, and the "art car" near Shear Beauty. The Fort Hays State University sculpture department will be on hand doing an aluminum pour near BankWest.

Additional highlights include:

  • CCC sophomore August Hutfles demonstrating how to throw clay pots on a ceramic wheel outside of Horlacher Jewelers.
  • An opportunity to purchase and glaze pottery at Movement Connection.
  • Artist Lissa Sexson will fire the piece and return it to the buyer later.
  • Balloon art up and down Franklin Ave.
  • Three food vendors: The 420 No. Co., Mama Deb's Cookin' and Weigel's Woodfire.
  • Face painting inside Deb's Flea Market.
  • Musical talent on the streets.
  • Caricature drawings.

“There will be something for everyone," said CCC art instructor Rebel Mahieu. "And we still have room for more if somebody has something they want to share.”

A map is available online.

There is no charge to attend. For more information or to volunteer, contact Mahieu at (785) 460-5459.
