NOTE: The April 6 Colby Community College Studio Friday class on charcoal art has been postponed. A date will be determined to reschedule the lesson during the fall semester.

For more information, contact CCC art instructor Rebel Mahieu at 460-5459.

Visiting artist Wayne Ward will teach how to create with charcoal at the Colby Community College Studio Friday class on April 6. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. in Ferguson Hall, rooms 502 and 503.

“Although I've embraced painting and sculpture throughout my life, my favorite medium is charcoal and pastels,” Ward said. “I find that direct contact with the paper using one's hands for blending and shading creates a very personal and intimate experience.”

Raised by American parents in Mexico, Ward says he worked in the United States for several years and began his formal art education in various stops around Europe. He returned to the colonial town of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where he developed an interest in sculpture and learned what he calls the “lost wax” process in the casting of bronze.

Ward’s drawings, paintings and sculptures have been purchased by businesses and individuals in different parts of the world. For now, he lives in Goodland where he was hired to work as a surveyor in the pipeline industry.

“Although the project ended a few months ago, I've decided to stay for some time and follow my passion creating art,” he said.

There is no charge to participate in Studio Friday. Supplies are provided for a suggested free-will donation. For more information, contact CCC art instructor Rebel Mahieu at 460-5459.
