Blacksmithing workshop Nov. 9
Blacksmithing workshop Nov. 9
Fort Hays State University sculpture instructor Toby Flores and his students will conduct a blacksmithing workshop from 1 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9 outside the CCC gymnasium. Then from 6 to 8 p.m. pieces by Flores and the FHSU sculpting program will be featured at the Thirsty Thursday art show in the Cultural Arts Center gallery.
The blacksmithing workshop will be an introductory event that teaches basic techniques to make clay and wax tools, bottle openers, and barbecue forks. Coal and propane forges will be used.
“No experience is needed,” Flores said. “Participants will need to wear jeans, closed toe shoes or leather boots, a cotton long sleeve shirt, and safety glasses. Proper tool use will be a priority. We will provide the steel, fuel, forges, anvils, hammers and the know-how.”
There is no admission charge for the blacksmithing workshop or the art show. For more information, contact CCC art instructor Rebel Mahieu at (785) 460-5459.
