Security experts agree that the single most important step to ensure personal safety is making the decision to refuse to be a victim.  That means having an overall personal safety strategy in place before it’s needed.

Refuse to Be a Victim is a nationally-recognized program providing personal safety tips and techniques to avoid dangerous situations and becoming a victim.

Colby Community College will offer the National Rifle Association (NRA) certified training session on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Student Union, room #108.

“Hundreds of federal, state and local law enforcement officials across the country have implemented this system into their crime prevention and community policing initiatives,” said Dean of External Affairs Barry Kaaz.  “Topics to be covered include security in the home, school, automobile and work place.  Technological security will also be addressed.”

This training is focused on personal safety strategies and self-defense skills that can enable participants to avoid, resist and survive situations ranging from low levels of aggression to violent assaults.

The course will be taught by certified trainer Tashia Kuper.  Cost is $15 ($10 for CCC students and staff).  Lunch is included.  Class size is limited and pre-registration is encouraged.

For more information call Kuper at 460-5413.
