Trojans Shine in Post Season Tune-Up
The Colby Community College men’s track & field team competed over the weekend at the Fred Beile Classic hosted by Doane College. The weekend was highlighted by the Trojans setting two stadium records in the Men’s 600 meter run and the Men’s 4 x 400 meter relay. Fabian Hayles set a new stadium record in the Men’s 600 meter run with a personal best time of 1:21.02. The previous record of 1:22.07 was held by Greg Torres of Doane College set back in 2005. The Men’s 4 x 400 relay of Ashley Riley, Mike Kinuthia, Fabian Hayles and Desmond Major topped the previous stadium record of 3:22.77, which was set earlier this season by Concordia University, with a time of 3:21.32.
“This was a great opportunity for us to sharpen up for the postseason and these guys took advantage of it. We are ready.” said Head Coach James Ortiz.
Other highlights from the weekend included Raheem Brown and Anthony Farrington finishing second and third in both the Men’s 60m and 200m dash, Mike Kinuthia and Josh Quiroga taking first and second in the Men’s 800m run, Chris Speaks winning the Men’s Mile and Omar Trevino taking the overall title in the Men’s 3000m run.
The Trojans next competition is the Indoor Track & Field Region VI Championships in Lawrence, Kansas on February 21st was the best finish in the programs Division-I history. Last season the Trojans finished as Region VI Runner-ups. Their second place finish was the best finish in the programs Division-I history.
