The Lady Trojan Softball Team split a double header against Garden City on Thursday, March 6.  The Trojans lost 10-3 to Garden City in game one despite Michelle Starkey’s two-hit day at the dish.

Garden City couldn’t get anything going when Natalie Elmgreen was on the rubber.  Garden City managed just three hits off of the CCC Trojans’ pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out one during her four innings of work.

The game was never in doubt after the first as Garden City scored on a three-run double by Mattie Miller.

Garden City pushed across two runs in both the second and seventh innings.  In the second, Garden City scored Denise Dentlinger on an error.

Two runs in the bottom of the fifth helped CCC close its deficit to 5-3.  An RBI single by Kendra Trussel and an RBI single by Elmgreen fueled the Trojans’ comeback.  However, Jessica Soliday got Kaiya Canar to fly out to end the inning.

Garden City piled on three more runs in the top of the sixth.  Brooke Lovas kicked things off with a single, plating Taylor Supino.

In game two CCC’s Natalie Elmgreen led the Trojans to a 2-1 victory.  She powered the Lady Trojans at the plate and on the rubber Thursday, willing them to a 2-1 victory over Garden City.

Elmgreen had a hot bat for the Trojans.  She went 1-2, drove in one and scored one run.  She singled in the second inning.

Elmgreen worked out of two tough spots for CCC.  She pitched seven innings and allowed no earned runs on three hits.  She faced her toughest moment in the seventh inning.

The Trojans would not relinquish the lead as Garden City was unable to weather a two-run third inning deficit.  The Broncbusters scored one run in the fifth but could not draw even.

The game’s last lead went to CCC thanks to a second inning rally that saw one run cross the plate on an error.  Garden City scored its only run of the game in the fifth inning.

The Trojans will play Dodge City at 1 p.m. in Colby on Saturday, March 8.  For more information, contact Head Coach Steve Kinnett.
