Horsemanship Camps Offered by CCC
A four-day Horsemanship Camp hosted by Colby Community College is scheduled for May 25-28. Youth ages 5-10 are allowed to participate as day campers only. The overnight horsemanship camp is for ages 11-17. Campers will be taught by Equestrian Team Coach Shanda Mattix. She will be assisted by members of the CCC Equestrian Team.
“Both English and Western disciplines will be available,” said Coach Mattix. “Additional activities are planned to expose campers to the CCC campus and help participants get to know one another.”
Each day will combine riding lessons, lectures and activities on various topics including nutrition, safety, grooming and horse behavior. The final morning will include a presentation for parents.
Prior to participating in the Horsemanship Camp, all campers must have previous riding experience and be able to demonstrate basic riding skills.
Campers are encouraged to bring their own horses for use during the camp. A very limited number of CCC-owned horses will be available at an additional cost. Campers who bring their own horses are required to provide hay, grain and other supplies.
Cost for the overnight camp is $300 (with horse); $350 overnight with a leased horse; $75 for the day camp with horse; and $85 for the day camp with a leased horse. The fee includes tuition, housing in the CCC residence hall, activities and all meals. Deadline for registration is May 15.
Mattix and the Equestrian Team will also be offering two-day camps in May. A Beginner Day Camp is scheduled for May 29 and a Youth Showman Day will be held May 30.
