CCC Men’s 4 x 400 Meter Relay Shines at 63rd Annual TSU Relays
The Colby Community College men’s track team sent a partial squad to the 63rd Annual Texas Southern Relays on March 21-22. The highlight of the competition was the performance of the 4 x 400 meter relay team. Team members Ashley Riley, Fabian Hayles, Keenan Williams and Dontrell Lyons captured the 4 x 400 meter relay title in a new school record time of 3:13.89. CCC topped NCAA Division-I schools Jackson State, Grambling, Southern, Texas Southern, and Houston Baptist to claim the relay.
The men’s 4 x 100 meter relay was the second relay of the competition to hit the national qualifying standard. The relay of Raheem Brown, Williams, Lyons and Jermaine Smith met the national qualifying standard of 41.89.
Riley, a sophomore at CCC, highlighted the individual performances and was the lone Trojan to hit a national qualifying standard. He ran a personal best in the 800 meter run of 1:52.36 and a 48.22 in the 400 meter dash.
Other highlights included Brown finishing third overall in the men’s 200 meter dash in 21.52. Brown was followed by teammates Lyons and Williams who finished fifth and seventh in 21.81 and 22.09. Hayles and Noe Belmares ran 1:56.42 and 1:57.50 in the 800 meter run and freshman Adrian Guevara finished ninth overall in the men’s 1500 meter run in 4:06.75.
The Trojans next competition is the Alex Francis Classic hosted by Fort Hays State University on March 28-29
