Another Trojan Heading to Division I
Colby Community College All-American Rob Monticone has signed his letter of intent to compete for Sam Houston State University next season. Monticone, a native of El Paso, Tex. and Americas Alumnus is a five-time All-American for the Trojans. Monticone was a US Citizen All-American in the 800 meter run as a freshman and was member of the national champion 4 x 800 meter relay and Distance Medley Relay that helped lead Colby Community College to a second place team finish at the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Monticone becomes the tenth member of the CCC men’s track program to sign with a four-year university this season and the sixth Division-I signee. He joins teammates Josh Quiroga, Ashley Riley, Gennard Paul and Keenan Williams who signed with Southland Conference member schools earlier this semester. Monticone is the thirteenth Trojan to transfer into the Southland Conference during Head Coach James Ortiz’s tenure.
“It’s going to be fun watching these guys who spent the last two years as teammates, now spending the next two years as competitors,” said Head Coach James Ortiz.
Sam Houston State University is a Division-I university located in Huntsville, Texas that competes in the Southland Conference.
