Scholarship Stacking/Overaward

An overaward is financial aid that exceeds a student’s financial need and/or cost of attendance.  When a student receives federal and/or state aid, Colby Community College is required to adhere to all associated regulations.  All aid, including scholarships, grants, loans, tuition grants, awards and prizes must be counted as estimated financial assistance in a student’s total aid package.

It is the student’s responsibility to report all sources of estimated financial assistance including departmental scholarships, employee tuition grants, outside scholarships, third party assistance and Colby Community College scholarship awards to the Financial Aid Office.

When the Financial Aid Office identifies an overaward from federal sources and Colby Community College scholarships, adjustments will be made to the scholarship dollars awarded by Colby Community College.  Scholarships received from private individuals and/or foundations will not be included in the calculation of the overaward.  The student will be allowed to keep these scholarships provided by outside sources.

Athletic scholarships for Jayhawk Conference team members and the CCC rodeo team, equestrian team and livestock judging team are exempt from this overaward and stacking policy.

The sum of all institutional aid received cannot exceed the college’s total standard direct cost of attendance.  Items in the standard direct cost include regular tuition charges, residence hall fees (including meals) and book costs.

Colby Community College reserves the right to adjust institutional scholarship awards when a student’s total institutional aid exceeds the designated limit.

Any funding paid by CCC may be considered institutional aid.  Some examples are admission-based scholarships, departmental awards, and employee tuition grants.

Presidential scholarships are awarded by the college president to incoming freshman for two years for an amount of $1,500 per year if selected. To be eligible, the student must have a minimum ACT of 21 and be recommended by his/her high school counselor. Nominees will be interviewed by the college president and a panel of current Presidential Scholars. Recipients are expected to be involved with various campus activities. A GPA of 3.0 must be maintained. It is the most prestigious academic scholarship offered by CCC.

Academic Scholarships are awarded to high school graduates by the Admissions Office. These scholarships are awarded for one year and are based on the applicant's ACT scores and grade point averages. To qualify for an academic scholarship, students must meet the following requirements:
