PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENTColby Community College Department of Nursing provides effective entry level education to fulfill the educational goals of all nursing students and to promote life long learning experiences through continuing education experience for the graduate nurse. This will be accomplished by ensuring students demonstrate: 1. Practice within the ethical and legal scope of practice. 2. Application of nursing process. 3. Independent coordinated nursing care of clients through the lifespan. 4. Utilization of therapeutic communication in the dynamic health care system and the community. NE, Ste 500, Atlanta, GA 30326, 800-669-1656 ext 153, nlnac.org) CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKAll students admitted to the Level I and Level II nursing program at Colby Community College must undergo a criminal background check prior to beginning the program. This is a mandatory requirement for becoming a licensed healthcare professional. The official website address can be obtained by speaking to the department of nursing. Only admitted students need to do the background check. FINANCIAL AIDThere is money available for a college education. Monies are available at Colby Community College in the form of scholarships and grants (which are not paid back) and loans. Much of the money available is based on need; however, some scholarships are on need and merit. It is recommended that you contact the Financial Aid Office at Colby Community College to receive specific information regarding grants and loans. To arrange for an appointment with the Financial Aid Officer, write (in care of the college) or call (785) 460-5497. A career in nursing provides a wide variety of job opportunities and job security. Nurses practice in hospitals and nursing homes but also in community agencies which may include care of infants, children, adults or the elderly. Colby Community College offers a Certificate in Practical Nursing and an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Nursing. Upon completion the student is eligible to write the licensure exam for practical nursing or registered nursing respectively. Courses are offered on the Colby, Goodland, and Norton campuses. Courses necessary to work toward a baccalaureate degree in nursing are also available at Colby Community College. ADMISSION TO THE NURSING PROGRAMStudents make applications to the Level I and Level II nursing programs on an annual basis each spring. The Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN) mandates the number of students that are accepted into these programs. More detailed information follows. The entrance exam (TEAS) can be scheduled with the nursing department in Colby or Norton. The COMPASS test is scheduled with CCC admission department. A Mandatory Information Session is held after the application deadline (March 1). Selection is made, based on a point total and attendance at the Mandatory Information Session. Program Entry ProcessWelcome to the Department of Nursing at Colby Community College. Thank you for your interest in the Nursing Program. Please utilize the following admission guidelines when applying. Colby's Nursing program has 4 campuses. Colby is a 1 + 1 program, that is Colby has a PN program and two types of ADN programs; Norton has a PN program with day and night optionsand Goodland has a PN program. New campus site at WaKeeney has a night PN option. There is a full time day ADN program and a night part time ADN program at 3 sites. There is a bridge program with transition courses for RRT/MICT to A.D.N. based at the Colby campus. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:To apply to the Full time Nursing Program, please follow the steps listed below. Applicants for the program must submit an application portfolio containing items listed below. The deadline for the portfolio to be in the Nursing office is March 1. You must be admitted into Colby Community College first. This is a different process. Please go to Apply Online to be admitted to the college. Then you can apply to nursing program. To apply to the Night LPN to ADN program follow the same procedure and use the * headers. To apply for the RRT/MICT bridge program, applicants need to contact the Director of Nursing at Colby Community College: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 785-460-5444. Application limited to 10 students. Follow the checklist steps below to complete your application process. Mail your completed application portfolio to the CCC Department of Nursing. Please note: Incomplete portfolios will be returned and you will not be in the application process until the completed portfolio is resubmitted. It is recommended that applicants complete two portfolios: one to submit to CCC and one for your records. Click Here to download the Nursing Application Checklist - Level I Step 1: Read all of the information on the website. This information will give you specifics on all the programs. Level 1 (practical nursing) and Level 2 (ADN). The courses and prerequisites are all explained in the Admission Information Document. Keep in mind there are prerequisite courses in the nursing program. Completed courses must be a "C" or better and within the time limits. The ADN program requires all applicants to have documentation of a current license. If applying directly from a PN program, all nursing courses must be a B average. * The LPN to ADN Night program Entry Process: Applicants must have a current license. General education courses can be completed over the 2 year program. All applications need to include the same information for the full time ADN program. Applicants are to contact the nursing department before application. Call 785-460-4797. RRT/MICT application information: To be eligible for application to these bridge courses, the applicant must be a RRT or MICT with 1 year minimum of employment at that level. Proof of employment is required. Also, the applicant must send official transcripts and copy of the credentials. There are specific general education courses that need to be completed. See list above. All applicants need to talk to the Director of Nursing at Colby Community College: 785-460-5444. Step 2: Download the Nursing Application For Admission to the PN or A.D.N. program. Download the Application to the RRT/MICT bridge courses, see above. Step 3: Fill out the Application to the Nursing Program. Step 4: You need to request two unofficial transcripts of all post secondary education transcripts. (These are schools other than CCC) Request two copies of your high school transcripts that represent courses relevant to the nursing curriculum. Please note: Transcripts usually require a fee for the granting institution. Place one copy of the transcripts in your application portfolio and keep the other copy. For students who want transcripts of Colby Community College classes released from the CCC registrar to the nursing department, do the following: Click on the form (s) below, print the form, complete and mail the form to the nursing department. Nursing Transcript Release Form for CCC (Remember official transcripts will be required for you to be admitted to Colby Community College. You will not be able to register or get financial aid until you have completed the admission process for the college). Nursing Request For Transcript Form Step 5: Nursing Health Nurse Form For Admission Step 6: Complete the Health History form. All sections are to be completed, including immunizations. Make 2 copies, put one copy in your application portfolio and keep one copy (you will need this information again). Incomplete forms will be returned with your portfolio to be completed. Step 7: Schedule the COMPASS test in the admission department at Colby Community College. Have your results sent to the Department of Nursing. The COMPASS test can also be taken at the Norton or Goodland campus. Step 8: Schedule the entrance exam called the TEAS test with the Department of Nursing. Call Marie at the Colby Campus (785-460-4797) or Connie at the Norton Campus (785-877-2735). They will schedule the time for this test. They also can give you specific information about the exam. There is a study guide available. There is a fee you pay for this test. This is about a 3 hour test so have your calendar ready when you schedule. If you have already taken these exams, your previous score can be submitted. Step 9: Send your complete Application Portfolio to: The Department of Nursing, 1255 S. Range, Colby, KS 67701. RRT/MICT applications need to sent to The Director of Nursing at Colby Community College as above. Norton Applicants can send complete Application Portfolio to: The Norton Annex of CCC, 102 1/2 E. Holme, Norton, KS 67654. Goodland and WaKeeney applications are to be sent to the nursing department in Colby. Deadline for the completed Application Portfolio to arrive at the Nursing Department is March 1. Admission and Notification: Applicants are admitted in the spring for the next nursing class year. There is specific criteria that is used for the admission process. There are 40 students admitted into the ADN program; 30 students in the Colby PN program; and 20 students at the Norton PN annex in the day PN option and 10 in the night option; 12 students at the Goodland PN annex; WaKeeney night option is limited to 10. The LPN to ADN Night Program is limited to 30 students. RRT/MICT is limited to 10 students. All applicants are required to attend the mandatory information session. The date will be given to successful applicants. There is specific admission criteria for RRT/MICT admission. Please contact the department- 785-460-5444 regarding this. Every applicant must have been a RRT or MICT for 1 year and have proof of employment at that level. Transition courses need to be completed before entry into the A.D.N. program. |
