living expenses. A student must be prepared to finance his/her stay in the U.S. without help from the college. A
student is not permitted to work in the U.S. unless permission has been granted by the United States
Immigration and Naturalization Service. A student should not anticipate financing his/her education by income from
employment.

All students must take a placement exam to determine if they are prepared for the work required in the freshman level courses. If these results show the student is not prepared, he/she will need to enroll in appropriate developmental courses.

7. Proof of Health Insurance

Beginning in the Fall 2008 semester, all international students are required to provide proof that they have health insurance before the first day of classes.

Students wishing to purchase insurance may do so from Student Assurance Services, (800) 245-0486. An insurance policy can be purchased for the school year for around $620 (USD).

SEVIS FEE

All students obtaining an F-1 visa must pay a SEVIS processing fee of $200 (this is separate from the $150 processing fee to CCC).  In addition the student must complete Form I-901.  There are two payment options:

  • Electronically (see web address below)
  • Through the mail, by submitting Form I-901 with a check or money order drawn on a U.S. bank and payable in U.S. currency.

More information can be found on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)website: http://www.ice.gov/sevis/i901/index.htm

To ensure verification of the fee payment at the consular office, those paying the fee electronically or by mail must submit the fee to the DHS address listed on the I-901 at least three (3) business days before the scheduled visa interview. This allows time for the fee to be deposited and payment recorded in SEVIS.

SEVIS FEE PAYMENT RECEIPT

DHS will issue an official paper receipt (I-797) acknowledging every payment regardless of the payment method. Express delivery for the I-797 receipt may be requested at an additional cost. Anyone submitting a fee electronically can print a receipt immediately at the time of payment for use in advance of the mail delivery of the official paper receipt.
