The Colby Community College Women’s Cross Country Team competed on Monday, Oct. 28, at Hutchinson Community Region VI Championship. The Lady Trojans finished 5th in the Conference and 9th in the Region.
“We started off the morning with an injury right before the start of the race,” said Head Coach Crystal Berndt. “One of the ladies hit a hole and went down. She would have been one of our top five runners and emotions flew through the team and myself and that point. These six ladies who ran gave a great effort but we just couldn’t pull off another Conference Championship this year. It was a very emotional ending to our 2013 Cross Country season.”
Sophomore Emily Chestnut (Clay Center) was the top runner for the Lady Trojans. She finished 23rd in the Region and 13th in the Conference with a time of 21.41. She was followed by sophomore Heather Schneider (22:27), freshman Joyce Korir (23:38), freshman Dolvine Serem (24:01), sophomore Sierra Besmer (24:24), and freshman Christina Bedore (24:46).
The Lady Trojans next competition will be the Half Marathon on November 16, in Dallas, Georgia.
