The Colby Community College Lady Trojans Track team, coached by Crystal Berndt, had a great meet April 5 at Kearney Neb. Freshman Kelsey Wilson from Oakley won the 100 Hurdles and smashed the previous school record of 15.53 by running her personal best time of 15:03.She just missed the National qualifying time of 14.87. Sophomore Paige Roopchan from Colby finished sixth in the triple jump with 34-06.25, and 12th in the Javelin 98-02. Freshman Jamie Wright from Towanda finished sixth in the Javelin, throwing 109-01.
“This meet was a real confidence booster for my ladies,” said Coach Berndt. “Kelsey Wilson winning the hurdles was a great start to our meet. She is a wonderful athlete and I can defiantly see her breaking her own record before the season ends.
Wilson actually broke a record set by Coach Berndt.
“I’ve held the old school record of 15.53 since 1997 and it was amazing having Kelsey, a resident from my hometown Oakley, taking my record. Paige Roopchan had a great meet also jumping her personal best in triple jump since she has been at CCC. She threw almost 100 feet in Javelin—a great throw for just a beginning thrower.
“It’s been a tough season for my ladies as we have lost many to injury and sickness. I’m hoping we can get a few of them back before the season ends.”
The Lady Trojans next competition is the Concordia Invite in Seward, Neb. on Saturday, April 12.
