The Colby Community College Equestrian team was recognized as the Zone 8 Region 5 Reserve High Point Team at the Regional Horse Show held at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on Feb. 16. Four CCC riders qualified for the competition.
“To qualify team members earned a minimum of 36 points at regular-season competitions,” said Head Coach Shanda Mattix. “The Regional Horse Show consists of the top riders in Zone 8 Region 5. It is tough to make it that far in competition and we had four riders who qualified.”
Jade Kruse, Oakley, qualified in Reining and was awarded 3rd in the Region.
LoriBeth James, Marquette, and Ariel Severson, Gem, competed in Beginner Horsemanship. James was 6th and Severson was 4th. Heather Toal, Hillsboro, also competed in the Intermediate Horsemanship.
“The Reserve High Point Team designation means that CCC had the second-most total points for the year in Zone 8 Region 5--just behind the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,” said Mattix. “Our team points were more than the eight other colleges and universities in the region. This is a huge accomplishment for a two-year school, and we are very pleased with the performance of our team this year. The CCC Equestrian team continues to gain recognition and be a competitive force at the regional, zone and national horse show level.”
