Daniel Devonshire, a member of the 2011-12 Colby Community College Trojan baseball team, was recently selected in the 37th round of the Major League Baseball draft to play for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Devonshire, catcher and designated hitter for the Trojans, is a native of Auckland, New Zealand. He was recruited to play baseball at CCC after excelling in high school and Club play in New Zealand, Canada and the United States.
“We are very proud and excited for Daniel to be drafted in this year’s draft,” said Head Baseball Coach Ryan Carter. “We feel confident that while Daniel will probably be back in Colby for his sophomore year, he will no doubt make an impact professionally when he is ready. The college continues to recruit and develop quality student-athletes, and we could not be happier for what Daniel has accomplished so far here at Colby.”
Devonshire was scouted in his early teens by the Seattle Mariners. He attended Major League Academy with the Washington Nationals and played extensively in Canada and the United States.
