|Small Wind Technology|
This unique one-year program concentrates specifically on Small Wind Technology (50 kW/h and smaller). Small wind turbines are designed for the home, farm, and small to medium sized businesses. The wind industry is one of the fastest growing technologies in the energy market. Because this program is online, it gives the student the ability to learn and work from home. Certain online courses have a one Saturday “boot camp” that is highly recommended. However, if the student is unable to attend, an alternative assignment will be given. Students can also start this program any semester including summer. The student will need to complete all three semesters (fall, spring, and summer) to complete the program. Each semester, the student will be engaged in multiple online courses that will precisely prepare them for a career in the wind turbine industry.
Our Boot Camps have state-of the art equipment/labs that are real-world systems (not mockups) for hands-on training. Some of the best training experiences found in this program are through our hands-on labs. Boot Camps give the student the necessary hands-on training needed to be successful in this industry.
Colby Community College was chosen as the site of one of four Regional Small Wind Test Centers to be located across the nation. In partnership with Kansas State University and Midwest Energy, the High Plains Small Wind Test Center will conduct tests on turbines at or less than 200 sq. meters swept area. Turbines will be tested for duration, power performance, safety & function, and acoustic noise emissions.

Because this program can be completed in one year, the graduate will be quickly prepared for the wind turbine industry and his/her career!
