Title III Grant Activities

A Message from the Director: Barry Kaaz

Distance Learning Classroom

In October, 2009, Colby Community College (CCC) was awarded a five-year Title III Grant of approximately $2 million dollars from the U.S. Department of Education’s Strengthening Institutions Program and the Higher Education Act. The focus of the CCC Title III grant is to increase enrollment by developing a distance learning network for rural, place-bound students. Activities to accomplish this goal include converting courses for online delivery, developing student services to facilitate and ensure the success of students enrolled in courses offered at a distance, providing training to faculty and staff for online course pedagogy and technology skills, and building the infrastructure necessary to support distance learning.

Colby Community College’s Title III grant is focused on creating a distance learning environment in which students at a distance can succeed and meet their educational goals. Now, in the fifth fiscal year of the grant, a number of courses have been converted to be offered online, academic services for students include Online Orientation, Online Tutoring services, Online Student Advising and others. Our technology infrastructure has improved with fiber optic cable installed at the college agricultural center, additional server hardware and software has been installed, and faculty and staff training are on-going. Through each of these grant activities, CCC students are poised for success!

Distance Learning in Norton & Wakeeny

Funds from the Title III grant were used to assist in the set up of Norton and Wakeeny's technology enhanced classrooms. RN students can receive instruction and face-to-face interaction.

Online Tutoring

Online Tutoring is now available. Let’s help educate students on how easy it is to now access help and tutoring. Located on the home page of eCollege, all CCC students (distance and on-campus) can access this eCollege "course.” Simply sign into ePortal, select eCourses, and then click the link to “Online Tutoring.” There you will find links to help students with various subjects along with instructions on how to contact tutors from a distance. Take a look!
